Cat door training

Put a small bell on a string that hangs down from the door, this will allow the cat to play with the string and ring the bell. It is a good learning tool to help and your cat to be smart. There are many kinds of bells with different sizes; a small one would be the prefect size for a cat to play and could able to ring the bell. Bells are less expensive and can be found and purchased in stores and craft store. The string of the bell should hang down long enough so that the cat can reach it with out jumping on it t or having to use the door for support. Try to put a small amount of catnip on the string or in the bell.

The cat will be attracted and will play the bell. Get catnip and spray the string, the smell of this will help attract them to the bell. Teaching the cat to use the bell is another kind of approach you must do to your cat. You can do it by playing the bell, the sound of the bell will signal your cat to come inside. When you put the cat outside and if you want them to come just ring the bell. Once your cat already knows how to ring the bell, you must reward them with a good healthy snack.

Another way of training your cat is to use a cat door to entrance and exit, you can find cat doors and entrances in most large pet stores, on the web, or ask you veterinary doctor where you can purchase a cat door. The doors are made small enough for the cat to get in and get out, and this will free you up from having to open the door always. A simple suggestion is make sure your cat will not run off before installing the door.


The cat doors can be installing right main door, or next to your main door mounted on wall. This is something that you will have to look at before purchasing a door for your cat. Measuring the size of the opening of the cat door is also important to look at before purchasing it in the store. You need to know the size of the cat door that you are able to fit in your door. You need also to measure your cats? height and width in order to know what size of opening you will need to get. When measuring the width make sure, you allow at least a couple of inches more than the width of the cat. The cat height is measured from the shoulders to the back of the front legs this will give the right height of the doors of your cat. Now let us look on how to train your cat on how to use the door. At first a cat will not automatically use the door. So you must hold the door open and allow the cat to come in and out freely with a simply food or snack place in the entrance and exit of the door. This will give the cat an idea how that they are able to open the door in close it.  Try to repeat the steps over a period of time until your cat can figure out how to enter and exit at their own way. You need to push your cat by pushing its nose through the door then open the door and allow them to come in and come out.

Once the cat is using the door you will experience the freedom of sleeping through the night or having to stop what you are doing to let your cat in and out, and possible no more kitty littering or mess.
